What Does Live Your Own Truth Even Mean?
You probably have at least some idea of what it means to be your ‘authentic self’ but have you ever really taken the time to think about it in any meaningful way? Believe it or not, I don’t think most people really have. Authenticity is not really a clearly defined idea, and it is something that everyone seems to have their own definition of.
To “Live your own truth” means living in an authentic way. Living according to your own values, beliefs, and feelings, rather than conforming to external pressures, societal expectations, or seeking validation from others. It involves having the courage to be yourself, making choices based on your inner conviction, and embracing your true identity.
Key aspects of living your own truth include:
- Authenticity: Removing the “mask” worn to please others and being honest about your feelings, thoughts, and opinions.
- Self-Awareness: Understanding your core values, passions, and inner voice.
- Courage & Integrity: Making decisions based on your own principles, even if they are unpopular
- .Setting Boundaries: Saying “no” when necessary to protect your well-being, rather than neglecting your needs to appease others.
- Internal Validation: Sourcing your self-worth and power from within, rather than from, say, material possessions or public opinion.
Essentially, “Living Your Own Truth” is a commitment to being true to yourself in all actions and expressions… This is something I believe has been slowly eroding in our society. In recent history, this is in large measure being leveraged by the algorithms designed by oligarchs who profit by herding everyone into neet and tidy groups that can be more easily marketed too. Creating a herd-like mentality where individualism is subservient to the collective thoughts of the groups in which we identify. We allow ourselves to be overridden by the ‘groupthink’ in order to remain in the good graces of others within the various social groups. This leads the individual to question their own personal beliefs and values and thus, shedding bits and pieces of the individual and replaced by whatever the group thinks.
